Cederberg

"Among the burnt orange cliffs and weathered rock of the Cederberg, nature paints in silence and time stands still—reminding us that true beauty is both wild and timeless."

Location

The Cederberg is located in the Western Cape province of South Africa, approximately 250-300 kilometers north of Cape Town.

Interesting Facts

The Cederberg is famous for its dramatic rock formations and ancient San rock - art some of the best-preserved in southern Africa.  These rock paintings created by the indigenous San people, are estimated to be between 2,000 and 8,000 years old.  They offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives, beliefs, and environments of the region's earlier inhabitants.  Sites like Stadsaal Cave and Truitjieskraal are rich with these ancient-artworks.

But the intrigue doesn't stop there-the Cederberg is also home to the rare Clanwilliam cedar tree, from which the range gets its name.  This endangered tree species grows only in the high mountain slopes of the Cederberg and nowhere else in the world.

Add to the surreal formations like the Maltese Cross and Wolfberg Arch, crystal-clear rock pools, and the fact that it's one of the best places for stargazing in South Africa due to minimal light pollution-and you've got a region that's both spiritually rich and wildly scenic.
